Two Waterloo companies among the 10 best workplaces in Canada

A new survey has ranked two Waterloo companies among the best places to work in the country.

The list comes from Great Place to Work, a benchmarking company that uses a “Trust Index” survey model to set standards on what makes a great workplace.

This year two Waterloo companies placed in the top 10 of its national ranking for companies between 100-999 employees: Axonify in seventh, and Dejero in fifth.

Axonify is a training and communications company of about 175 people. It develops a “modern learning solution platform” that allows leadership at different businesses to deliver prompts and reminders to frontline workers in “focused, bite-sized bursts of information” that fit into their workflow.

The company was recognized for its especially flexible work-from-home arrangements during the pandemic, new learning programs to help Axonify managers better support employees, and flexible paid time off.

Dejero, a company of about 125 people, offers enhanced video streaming and connection services for enterprise clients as well as those in public safety, transit, and broadcast (in fact, Dejero won a “excellence in engineering creativity” Emmy Award for one of its innovations).

The company was recognized for its family friendly perks and practices (family movie nights, quarterly care packages, virtual magic/comedy shows, among others), as well as its unique mentoring program, and a suite of comprehensive wellness benefits including fitness boot camps and yoga classes, healthcare spending accounts, and mental health resources.

The Peer Group Inc., a Kitchener-based software company, also placed ninth on the list, recognized for its flexible/reduced work hours, work-from-home computer gear kits, and “fun Fridays” in which employees are treated to a special catered meal or snack courtesy of the companies.

These are just a handful of the companies that represent the aspirations of so many businesses in Canada’s Tech Triangle, all of which are constantly jockeying to attract the best and brightest in their field.
